Canadian Tax Deadlines in 2025

January 31, 2025

Happy New Year! We’re half a century past the millenium now… Welcome to 2025!

Here’s a quick overview of important dates for Canadian tax filing in 2025:

February 24, 2025 - NETFILE opens

You can technically start filing taxes online on this day, but most people won’t have all of their tax documents and receipts lined up just yet.

February 29, 2025 - Due date for T4s from employers

If you were employed by a company (ie. you’re not a self-employed contractor) they should be sending you a T4 on or before this date.

March 1, 2025 - RRSP contribution deadline

Worried about retirement? Worried about paying too much in taxes? You have until this day to make a contribution to your retirement fund and have it reduce your taxable income for 2024.

April 30, 2025 - Tax filing deadline / Tax payments due

Make sure your taxes are done on time! Preferably before this date to avoid penalties. Any balances owed to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are due on this day.

June 16, 2025 - Self-employed tax filing deadline

Make sure your taxes are done on time! Preferably before this date to avoid penalties. Any balances owed to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) are due as of April 30, 2025.

June 30, 2025 - Business tax deadline

Business tax returns are always due six months after the end of your fiscal year. If you have a fiscal year end that isn’t December 31st, your filing deadline will be on a different date!

These lands are subject to Treaties 4,6,7,8, and 10, and have long served as meeting grounds, travel routes, and gathering places for many diverse First Nations including the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, as well as Métis, and Inuit peoples. We recognize all these Nations and communities, whose rich histories, languages, cultures, and traditions continue to thrive and are key to the enrichment of all our communities.
